Unless you live
alone in a cave,
One of your closest friends is a transvestite
Who is dying inside because he can't tell you.
Society tells such men that there is something wrong with them.
So they suppress their true selves and live in anguish and isolation.
The "Femme" Mirror
In the gender world I primarily identify myself as a cross-dresser. In that role the organization that I feel the closest attachment to is The Society for the Second Self, Inc (Tri-Ess). Tri-Ess is the world's largest organization dedicated to the needs of cross-dressers. I heartily recommend them, their programs, their philosophy and leadership to others who consider themselves cross-dressers. They have chapters in most major U.S. metropolitan areas.
This is an extremely popular series of articles that was published in the Tri-Ess magazine "The (Femme) Mirror." They parallel the material in my book, "The Bliss of Becoming One!" While the principles expressed have general applicability, the articles are written with a specific focus on male to female transvestites.
Our relationship began when I asked the editor Brenda Thomas for permission to quote her in my book. Brenda subsequently printed an exceptionally positive review of a promotional copy of the book. Later that year I proposed a series of articles to introduce the ideas in the book and to develop a dialogue within the gender community. My hope was that through these ideas, many of our friends would begin a journey towards wholeness, that we would become more of a community and that more of us would start working on the process of educating society. Brenda was kind enough to print that first article and we continued to collaborate until Brenda retired from the editor position. I was fortunate to be able to establish equally strong ties with Mary Frances Fairfax to finish the series.
