Toward a Church as Generous
and Just as God's Grace

About the Covenant Network

The Covenant Network of Presbyterians is a broad-based, national group of clergy and lay leaders working for a church that is simultaneously faithful, just, and whole. We seek to support the mission and unity of the Presbyterian Church (USA) in a time of potentially divisive controversy. We intend to articulate and act on the church's historic, progressive vision and to work for a fully inclusive church.

HESED

NOTE: Hesed has been inactive for some time due to professional time constraints. It is being maintained as an archive only.

Hesed [Hebrew for steadfast love or loving kindness] is an informal group of PC(USA) pastors, elders, deacons, and other lay church leaders dedicated to bringing about an inclusive church which affirms the common dignity of all people, the equality of all in Christ, and our common responsibility as Christians to fulfill the Great Commandment of Jesus Christ (Matt. 22:39; Mark 12:31; Gal. 5:14) to love our neighbors as ourselves, without judgment or condemnation (James 2:8-13). It has supported both covenants of dissent to G-6.0106b and "Amendment A" brought to the presbyteries for a vote in 1998 and now is active in supporting repeal of G-6.0106b. While its purpose goes far beyond the issue of GLBT ordination, it is representative of the broad-based support which exists within the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) for the ordination of lesbian and gay persons with appropriate gifts who are called by God to service.

News and networking for progressive Presbyterians

Witherspoon Society - A society of justice-seeking Presbyterians, responding to the God who calls us through the power of the Holy Spirit into wholeness, as a community that lives out the radical vision of the Gospel of Jesus the Christ in a world increasingly broken. We profess our mission to be: nurturing the prophetic voice of the church through study, action and reflection, equipping faithful Presbyterians for responsible participation at all levels of the church, and advocating for peace, justice, the integrity of creation, and the full inclusion of all God's people in church and society.  Through our witness we seek to revitalize the church's life and focus, so that it may be biblically and confessionally faithful in the world.
