Our Mission:
To engage, connect, and empower people to make the world a better place
for children of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender parents and
families.

You mean I'm not the only one?!!
Welcome to Families Like Mine, a web site dedicated to
decreasing isolation for people who have parents who are lesbian,
gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT), and bringing voice to the
experiences of these families.
This site was created by Abigail Garner, a lifetime advocate for
LGBT families because she comes from one herself. She is the author
of the new book, Families Like Mine: Children of Gay Parents Tell It
Like It Is (HarperCollins).
This site is intended for adults and mature teens, but not young
children. (Abigail speaks directly to teens at: "When I was Your
Age...") In addition to providing resources for LGBT people and
their families, FamiliesLikeMine.com is also for our allies. Regular
visitors to this site include students and employers who are looking
for ways to build more inclusive environments on campus or in the
workplace. Other visitors include journalists, therapists, and
researchers seeking information on LGBT-family issues. |
|
  So what should
you do if your child is gay? You can't turn your back on them. You love
them too much for that. But how can you accept something about them that
your church, your family, your friends and possibly even yourself finds
unbearable, immoral or indecent?
If we are successful with this website, you
will find the answer to this challenging question. It is our prayer that
our efforts will keep you from losing your child.

AIDS is the worst epidemic humankind has ever
faced. The virus infects 14,000 people every day, leaving millions
of people suffering and having a devastating effect on the world's
most vulnerable:
• More than 14 million children worldwide have
been orphaned because of AIDS. That's the equivalent of every child
under five in America with no one to watch over them.
• Nearly six million children have been killed
by AIDS. That number is more than every child in every grade school
and high school in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, Miami
and Atlanta combined.
But, there is cause for hope. Three important
catalysts are spurring a strong world response to this epidemic.
Political leaders in many countries are increasing their support to
AIDS efforts. More resources in the global community are being
applied to areas struggling with the virus. And, medicines improve
every year, allowing many to survive with the disease and inhibiting
new infections.
Your contributions help the organizations that
ensure these efforts continue, with the end goal of wiping out the
disease entirely: the UN created the Joint United Nations Program on
AIDS (UNAIDS), which is dedicated to advocacy for global action on
the epidemic and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.
Since January 2002, The Global Fund has mobilized, managed and
distributed funds to help fight this epidemic.
You can be a huge part of the global solution.

Welcome
My name is Jeff, I'm 24
years old, and I'm gay. This website is an accumulation of
my writings and letters regarding my experiences and
feelings that came from growing up gay in an anti-gay world.
Almost all of the writings on this site were done when I was
16 and 17, very few are recent. At the time of this site's
creation I was disappointed in the lack of useful
information online about real gay issues, and I was even
more disappointed in the way the information was presented,
so I gathered everything I'd written about growing up gay,
and links to gay pages I found valuable, and put them all
here. Online erotic stories are not really very helpful,
unless you want tips on how to jump your next pizza man, or
if you suspect your best friend is going to randomly throw
himself on top of you, or if you think you may be staying
late in the locker room. Furthermore, I didn't care too much
for websites that rainbowed every inch of the screen - the
huge oscillating rainbow backgrounds that burn out your
retinas, and cartoon male genital navigation buttons that
only succeed in making gay people appear mentally
challenged, and I won't support that. For the past five
years this site has been online, and for the most part it
has accomplished what I set out to do, and that is to let
gay teens (even gay adults who are struggling with their
sexuality) know that they're not alone. Most of all though,
I wanted to show everyone that you can be gay and happy,
accepted, loved, and successful in life, and that coming to
terms with your sexuality in no way impedes your quality of
life. You'll find it does quite the contrary.

Just
Say Yes
is about helping teens to develop a positive attitude towards sexuality --
gay,
straight, bisexual
or whatever. It's about saying "yes" to sex you do want, and
"no" to sex you don't. It says there's nothing wrong with
you if you decide to have sex, and nothing wrong with you if
you decide not to.
You have the right to make your own choices, and to have
people respect them.
Sex is enjoyable when everyone involved is into it, and
when everyone has the information they need to take care of
themselves and each other.
About our language: We
chose words for this guide that we use when we talk about
sex with our friends. We're not doctors and we don't pretend
to be, so pardon our French! |

Scarleteen
- Sex Education for the real world - While we at Scarleteen do not hold to the notion
that telling teens to go have sex is a better solution, we strongly
feel that belying judgment and furnishing them with the facts they
need to know REGARDLESS of whether or not they are sexually active
readies them to learn to make their own choices, and develop their
own systems of ethics and values from themselves and their families
is our job as educators and sex-positive advocates. One cannot make
a decision from a position of informed consent without being
informed.

Welcome to an
amazing charitable organization that is dedicated to saving young lives.
During this 25th year (AIDS was discovered 1981) of the pandemic, there
are many efforts around the world trying to curb the spread of HIV.
Everyone involved in these efforts should be applauded for their hard
work and commitment to helping save the human race from this deadly,
preventable viral disease.
However,
TeenAIDS is different from all the others. We are
committed to saving young teenage lives first. We are the only
organization whose Executive Director is volunteering 100 percent of his
time to this mission. We are the only charity that provides the best and
most extensive website on the Internet to educate young people. We have
volunteers in over 80 countries who do their work selflessly for their
peers and countrymen.
Please read about Dr. John, the PeerCorps volunteers, our staff and the
Boards that provide needed assistance in delivering the medically
accurate facts that prevent the premature deaths of the younger
generation of the world. |

Welcome to the most complete Internet Resource on
Gay and Bisexual Male suicide problems!
related issues, and a little known concept related to youth
suicide. The evidence indicates that homosexually oriented males
account for more than half of male youth suicide problems, but
mainstream suicidologists generally continue to ignore this aspect
of the problem. Information about lesbian youth suicide problems is included, as is other
generally unrecognized factors possibly associated with youth suicide problems.
It is
hoped that your exploration of the site lead to positive outcomes for the ongoing victims
of the traditional
Better
be Dead Than Gay social ideology. Unfortunately,
many
professionals have had a history of abusing, harming and/or ignoring these young
individuals. They have also been ignoring the high risk status of many
other adolescents targeted for abuse in schools and elsewhere
because they are "presumed to be homosexual," usually on the basis
of gender nonconformity. |

The Mission
of
Outright Vermont is to build safe,
healthy, and supportive environments for gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender, queer, and questioning youth.
Outright Vermont (ORVT)
is one of the longest standing queer organizations in Vermont and the
only one that works specifically with young people. By striving to
empower queer youth, model positive cross-generational learning and
leadership, and to address lateral oppressions including racism,
classism, and heterosexism, ORVT is building a safer, healthier, and
more supportive world for all young people.
Founded in 1989 by
local gay and lesbian activists, ORVT helped to create visibility,
support, and advocacy throughout the 90s for the queer youth community
in Vermont. Our work has now expanded to encompass Education and
Outreach, Health and Wellness, Direct Services, and Social Justice
Organizing. ORVT is now one of the few independent, queer-youth only,
organizations in the United States which still provides both Direct
Service and Education & Outreach services.
