It is the mission of The Pride Family of Cochise County to enhance the quality of life in Cochise County for persons who are affected by their own or somebody else’s ignorance or intolerance based on cultural prejudice or sexual orientation. 1. We seek to offer support to any teacher, parent, student or other person who is struggling with issues related to sexual orientation – his or her own, or someone else’s;
2. We seek to provide social opportunities for anyone who is isolated because of his or her sexual orientation;
3. We seek to project a positive image of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people as an asset to be valued – not a threat to be feared;
4. We seek to assist any person who wishes, for personal or professional reasons, to better understand the issues that impact our lives;
5. We seek to create a supportive network for persons who are aging, ailing or dying without the benefit of biological family members to assist and comfort them;
6. We seek to promote harmonious relations with mainstream society based on mutual respect, trust and appreciation of the splendid diversity we can manifest together. |

The Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame is both a historic event and an exhibit. Through the Hall of Fame, residents of Chicago and the world are made aware of the contributions of Chicago's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities and the communities' efforts to eradicate homophobic bias and discrimination. With the support of the City of Chicago Commission on Human Relations, the Advisory Council on Gay and Lesbian Issues (now the Advisory Council on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues) established the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in June 1991. The inaugural induction ceremony took place during Gay and Lesbian Pride Week at City Hall, hosted by Mayor Richard M. Daley. This was the first event of its kind in the country. The Hall of Fame recognizes the volunteer and professional achievements of lesbians and gay men, their organizations, and their friends, as well as their contributions to the lesbian and gay community and to the City of Chicago. This is a unique tribute to dedicated individuals and organizations whose services have improved the quality of life for all of Chicago's citizens. |
