A new word for a very old idea. Two-spirited peoples
have been around for as long as there have been people.
Recent terms that attempt to define us, such as
transgendered or "gender dysphorics" are inadequate to
describe what is first and foremost a spiritual state.
Gender expression comes in a variety of forms ranging from
Cross-dressing to sexual reassignment surgery. But in all
cases there is a common element: The desire to
express yourself as an individual and as a gender, other
than that you were born with.
Birth Gender vs. Spiritual Gender.
This site is based on a few beliefs and here is one of
the most important. We believe that the plumbing that
one is born with is secondary to the person you want to be.
Birth Gender may well govern what is put on your drivers
license...but it is your spiritual gender that governs how
you express your life. Hopefully this site will open
dialogue and understanding in this area. |

About This Website:
(es) = en español
- My goal for this
website is to illuminate and normalize the issues of gender identity
and the processes of gender transition. This project began in the
year 2000, as I struggled to "come out" about my past to my research
colleagues. I wanted to tell in my own words the story of my gender
transition from male to female three decades earlier, in 1968, and
then of being outed 31 years later in 1999, while living quietly and
successfully in "stealth mode".
-
- Since beginning
work on this website, I've come into contact with ever growing
numbers of people concerned with gender issues. I've interacted via
e-mail and in personal meetings with large numbers of people who are
transitioning or who have transitioned. Given the still-remaining
social invisibility, ignorance and superstitions about gender
conditions, I've felt a strong need to provide whatever information,
encouragement and hope that I can to help others who are struggling
with these issues.
-
- As a result of
my contacts with thousands of TG/TS/IS people over the past few
years, this website has evolved into a major informational and
support site for
transgender and
transsexual people. The site now
reflects years of field work and empirical research, and intensive
efforts at framing and writing up the resulting observations
regarding this previously almost invisible, highly stigmatized
minority about which many superstitions still prevail.

advocacy, collaboration and empowerment.
NCTE was founded in 2003 by transgender

transgender people.
NCTE provides this

OIGSOutreach
Institute of Gender Studies

The Outreach Institute of
Gender Studies (OIGS) was established in 1975 to
advance the understanding of gender identity and role development with a
special focus on alternative gender lifestyles. The last two decades
have witnessed controversy over what characteristics should constitute
manhood and womanhood in American culture. Traditional forms of gender
identity and gender role are being questioned. Crossdressers, drag
queens, transsexuals, and transgendered people of all types are more
openly challenging cultural gender stereotypes. |

Campaigning for respect and equality for ALL trans people
Why we are here
Press for
Change is a political lobbying and educational organisation, which
campaigns to achieve equal civil rights and liberties for all trans
people in the United Kingdom, through legislation and social change.

This site
is here to explain our work, and to support all those who campaign with
us to achieve full equality and rights for gender diverse people in
modern society.
Nowhere
else in the world will you find such a comprehensive collection of
information about the trans rights campaign, and details about the
legal, medical, political and social issues surrounding the people it
represents. If you’re a trans person, we aim to raise your
consciousness. If you’re a researcher or a journalist we want you to
have everything you could possibly want to report us accurately and
fairly. If you’re a campaigner already, we want to provide you with the
very best resources. And if you’re not, we’d like to show you what an
astonishing challenge we continue to face even though many fundamental
forms of protection are now in place through UK law.

Remembering Our Dead
|
The idea for this memorial came while posting to a message
board in the Transgender Community Forum on America Online,
discussing the murder of Rita Hester and the wrongful
death/survivor’s action for Tyra Hunter. So many had
forgotten some of the individuals we had lost in only the
recent past and I felt that, by forgetting those
individuals, we would be doomed to see their deaths
repeated. Indeed, the passing of Rita Hester is similar
enough to the death of Chanelle Pickett to leave one
wondering.
We have lost so many people in our community to the hand of
hatred and prejudice, yet we still are not seemingly willing
to fight back. Meanwhile, we die at the hands of a lover, of
police, of medical practitioners, and even parents, while
the news media calls us “freaks” — and worse.

| Welcome to
Rose’s Forum |
| This is a forum for transgendered
persons, their friends and their families.
The Forum was created by Krystina
at the end of 2001 on behalf of Rose’s which is the
organisation founded by Martine Rose in 1979. The Forum was
initially set up as an additional facility for
subscribers/readers of
Rose’s Repartee magazine which is
widely recognised as a leading magazine for cross-dressers.
However the Forum was never restricted to Repartee readers
and it quickly grew to cater for the whole transgender
community worldwide.
Regrettably, and most unexpectedly,
Krystina passed away in her sleep on 21st December 2004 aged
only 36. The enormous success of this Forum is a tribute to
Krystina’s tireless work in maintaining and developing it.
The Forum is now being maintained
by Martine Rose and Val with help with the day to day
running of the forum from a team of dedicated volunteer
administrators and moderators. |

TGE
was organized to fill a gap in the type and quality of resources
available to the transgendered community on the world wide web.
Unlike some other sites, we're not a commercial enterprise, nor are
we a political action group trying to change the world, although we
do offer resource information about such groups and encourage those
that are interested to become involved in the issues. What we are is
a peer based support organization of transgendered people who came
together with the idea of helping other transgendered people, TG to
TG, whether in our local community or through our outreach in
internet based chat.
The
subject of trangenderism itself is a diverse one, just as people in
general are, and we openly encourage the most diverse participation
possible. Our goal is to help brothers and sisters in the gender
community worldwide to explore their individual gender experience in
an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding. Whether you concider
yourself as TG, CD, TV, TS, or somewhere in between, we are all
transgendered, and by bringing TG people of every persuasion
together as peers, we can all find a friend or two to relate to,
share experiences with, and help one another. And that, is what peer
support & TGE is all about!

What is
MeNTA?
MeNTA stands for "Metropolitan
North Transgender Alliance." We are a new
group at the LOFT, and exist for the purpose of providing a
resource for all transgendered and gender-variant people in
Westchester County and surrounding communities.
What does
transgendered mean?
As used here, transgendered is
intended as an inclusive umbrella term encompassing the
diversity of gender expression, including drag queens and
drag kings, the cross-gendered, the bigendered, the
weakly-gendered, crossdressers and transvestites,
transgenderists and transsexuals. Transgendered includes
Female-to-Male (F2M), Male-to-Female (M2F) and Androgynous.
Transgendered people identify as lesbian, gay, straight,
asexual and bisexual. There is much diversity in the
transgendered community.
What is transsexuality?
Transsexuals are people who find their
gender identity - the sense of themselves as male or female
- in conflict with their anatomical sex. Some transsexuals
may live part time in their self-defined gender. Many desire
to live fully in their self-identified gender. Some undergo
hormone therapy and/or sex reassignment surgery.
What are issues transgendered people face?
Transgendered and transsexual people
often get a great deal of publicity but less real
understanding. No matter how many talk shows or hit movies
feature transgendered people, our society still looks at the
transgendered and transsexual experience as "abnormal" or
sometimes "sick" and "perverted."

ABOUT US
What began as an idea by the Tara Foundation's
founder Tara Taylor and helped by a generous $10,000 grant from the
Main Community Foundation, the foundation was started in 2002. The
Tara Foundation is dedicated to addressing the needs of low-income
transgender people.
• FOCUS
Our primary focus will be helping transsexuals
obtain sex-change surgery. Since most insurance doesn't cover sex
reassignment surgery (SRS) many transgender people have no way to
pay for this medically-necessary surgery that makes their transition
complete. Many are disabled and/or low income and can barely meet
their living expenses, not to mention the significant costs of
transitioning. |
