A new word for a very old idea. Two-spirited peoples have been around for as long as there have been people. Recent terms that attempt to define us, such as transgendered or "gender dysphorics" are inadequate to describe what is first and foremost a spiritual state. Gender expression comes in a variety of forms ranging from Cross-dressing to sexual reassignment surgery. But in all cases there is a common element: The desire to express yourself as an individual and as a gender, other than that you were born with. Birth Gender vs. Spiritual Gender. This site is based on a few beliefs and here is one of the most important. We believe that the plumbing that one is born with is secondary to the person you want to be. Birth Gender may well govern what is put on your drivers license...but it is your spiritual gender that governs how you express your life. Hopefully this site will open dialogue and understanding in this area. |

| Lynn Conway Computer Scientist, Electrical Engineer, Inventor Research Manager, Engineering Educator -
About This Website: (es) = en español - My goal for this website is to illuminate and normalize the issues of gender identity and the processes of gender transition. This project began in the year 2000, as I struggled to "come out" about my past to my research colleagues. I wanted to tell in my own words the story of my gender transition from male to female three decades earlier, in 1968, and then of being outed 31 years later in 1999, while living quietly and successfully in "stealth mode".
-
- Since beginning work on this website, I've come into contact with ever growing numbers of people concerned with gender issues. I've interacted via e-mail and in personal meetings with large numbers of people who are transitioning or who have transitioned. Given the still-remaining social invisibility, ignorance and superstitions about gender conditions, I've felt a strong need to provide whatever information, encouragement and hope that I can to help others who are struggling with these issues.
-
- As a result of my contacts with thousands of TG/TS/IS people over the past few years, this website has evolved into a major informational and support site for transgender and transsexual people. The site now reflects years of field work and empirical research, and intensive efforts at framing and writing up the resulting observations regarding this previously almost invisible, highly stigmatized minority about which many superstitions still prevail.

OIGSOutreach Institute of Gender Studies
The Outreach Institute of Gender Studies (OIGS) was established in 1975 to advance the understanding of gender identity and role development with a special focus on alternative gender lifestyles. The last two decades have witnessed controversy over what characteristics should constitute manhood and womanhood in American culture. Traditional forms of gender identity and gender role are being questioned. Crossdressers, drag queens, transsexuals, and transgendered people of all types are more openly challenging cultural gender stereotypes. |

Campaigning for respect and equality for ALL trans people Why we are herePress for Change is a political lobbying and educational organisation, which campaigns to achieve equal civil rights and liberties for all trans people in the United Kingdom, through legislation and social change.
This site is here to explain our work, and to support all those who campaign with us to achieve full equality and rights for gender diverse people in modern society. Nowhere else in the world will you find such a comprehensive collection of information about the trans rights campaign, and details about the legal, medical, political and social issues surrounding the people it represents. If you’re a trans person, we aim to raise your consciousness. If you’re a researcher or a journalist we want you to have everything you could possibly want to report us accurately and fairly. If you’re a campaigner already, we want to provide you with the very best resources. And if you’re not, we’d like to show you what an astonishing challenge we continue to face even though many fundamental forms of protection are now in place through UK law. |

Remembering Our Dead The idea for this memorial came while posting to a message board in the Transgender Community Forum on America Online, discussing the murder of Rita Hester and the wrongful death/survivor’s action for Tyra Hunter. So many had forgotten some of the individuals we had lost in only the recent past and I felt that, by forgetting those individuals, we would be doomed to see their deaths repeated. Indeed, the passing of Rita Hester is similar enough to the death of Chanelle Pickett to leave one wondering. We have lost so many people in our community to the hand of hatred and prejudice, yet we still are not seemingly willing to fight back. Meanwhile, we die at the hands of a lover, of police, of medical practitioners, and even parents, while the news media calls us “freaks” — and worse. |

| Welcome to Rose’s Forum | | This is a forum for transgendered persons, their friends and their families. The Forum was created by Krystina at the end of 2001 on behalf of Rose’s which is the organisation founded by Martine Rose in 1979. The Forum was initially set up as an additional facility for subscribers/readers of Rose’s Repartee magazine which is widely recognised as a leading magazine for cross-dressers. However the Forum was never restricted to Repartee readers and it quickly grew to cater for the whole transgender community worldwide. Regrettably, and most unexpectedly, Krystina passed away in her sleep on 21st December 2004 aged only 36. The enormous success of this Forum is a tribute to Krystina’s tireless work in maintaining and developing it. The Forum is now being maintained by Martine Rose and Val with help with the day to day running of the forum from a team of dedicated volunteer administrators and moderators. |

For some there is CGS, Tri-ess, or T.O.N.I. (see Support Groups).
The business meetings, social events, and night outs. These are wonderful opportunities for the girls on the north side, but a long drive for the girls down south.
