The American Prospect was founded in 1990 as an authoritative magazine of liberal ideas, committed to a just society, an enriched democracy, and effective liberal politics. Robert Kuttner, Robert Reich, and Paul Starr launched the magazine initially as a quarterly.

Our mission, simply put, is to rise to the momentous occasion that confronts all Americans who seek a just society built on our greatest traditions. Contemporary conservatism stands to thwart those traditions; it advances its agenda by way of stealth, fear-mongering, and a massive propaganda apparatus. It is our mission to expose that agenda and the lies that support it.

Gay Today began as an indispensable resource for anyone interested in gay life in America. There is nothing else like it on the Internet.

If you value skepticism in your news and expect the reporter to be open about his point of view, one of the best sources for news analysis is Gay Today. With sections on technology, health, entertainment, reviews, people, and world events, this is a tabloid with professional standards -- all the writers have strong views and strong personalities -- and the writing is wonderful. The interviews and columns are often the strongest pieces, searching out today's activists as well as gay rights.

No important cultural or political event ever escapes the scrutiny of Gay Today and that was never more evident than in the writing of Gay Today’s original editor, Jack Nichols, a great national resource who is the pinnacle of gay journalists in America.

The Gully online magazine and The Gully en español, published from February of 2000 to March of 2006, were unique forums for the global lgbt community.

Our mission: to offer queer views on everything from the Iraq war and human rights in Guatemala to same-sex marriage and World Cup soccer.

Created by two lesbian activists in 2000 to encourage activism and redefine and expand gay issues, the magazine was called The Gully, a ravine created by run-off rainwater, to remind us that even a small amount of water, if it persists in one path long enough, can become a force for change.

This electronic journal will be an important vehicle for the transmission of scholarly work in the area of transgenderism. We are at an exciting point in history where the interest in the study of transgenderism is keen and quite a bit of scholarly activity is being produced. The study of transgenderism is rapidly expanding both in quantity and in breadth. We are learning more about transgenderism from an interdisciplinary and intercultural perspective, from vast new knowledge from psychological and biomedical studies of gender identity, and from anthropological, socio-cultural and historical studies. We feel that this journal will be an important source of information and exchange of ideas from this perspective throughout the world.

The news business is no easy ride. Beyond the long hours, tough decisions, deadlines and patience the industry calls for, serving a tight-knit community such as San Diego’s GLBT community for 15 years requires a good ear for a story when it often seems little is happening. A delicate balance between objectivity and advocacy is also crucial, as well as an ability to provide objective coverage of events in our community that some feel may not paint us in the best light.

Who We Are.

Voices is a newspaper, a journal of news and opinion published monthly by and for members of the Central Pennsylvania community. Voices of Central Pennsylvania, Inc., headquartered in State College, PA, is a non-profit, volunteer-staffed organization committed to providing a platform for alternative viewpoints. We are a proudly liberal organization, supporting diversity, inclusiveness, respect for all people, non-violence, minority and women's rights, and environmental protection. We do not, however, preach an orthodox line on any issue, nor restrict our editorial position to any single definition of the word "liberal." We welcome all views from the mainstream to the far left, and are not afraid to examine or to critique our own beliefs. Because of these open-minded policies, and because we depend on volunteers for the content of our paper, our contributorstheir thoughts, opinions, and experiencesdetermine, to a great extent, the kind of paper we are.
