the HRC provides a national voice on gay and
lesbian issues. The Human Rights Campaign effectively lobbies
Congress; mobilizes grassroots action in diverse communities;

Mission of the National Gay and Lesbian
Task Force Foundation
The mission of the National Gay and
Lesbian Task Force is to build the political power of the lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community from the ground up. We do this
by training activists, organizing broad-based campaigns to defeat
anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation, and by building
the organizational capacity of our movement. Our Policy Institute, the
movement’s premier think tank, provides research and policy analysis to
support the struggle for complete equality and to counter right-wing
lies. As part of a broader social justice movement, we work to create a
nation that respects the diversity of human expression and identity and
creates opportunity for all.
Mission of the National Gay and Lesbian
Task Force, Inc.
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force,
Inc. (NGLTF, Inc.), founded in 1973 and incorporated in 1974, works to
build the grassroots political power of the LGBT community to win
complete equality. We do this through direct and grassroots lobbying to
defeat anti-LGBT ballot initiatives and legislation and pass pro-LGBT
legislation and other measures. We also analyze and report on the
positions of candidates for public office on issues of importance to the
LGBT community. NGLTF, Inc., is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation
incorporated in New York. Contributions to NGLTF, Inc., are not
tax-deductible.

so much stuff to read on this site that it's almost scary. See the

Fight OUT Loud is a non-profit
organization
dedicated to helping GLBT individuals fight
discrimination and hate.
Our Mission
The mission of
Fight OUT Loud
is to assist the gay, lesbian, bisexual,
and transgender community in mobilizing against discrimination and
hate crimes. We hope to use our experience to give guidance
through the maze of government, media, police, and security issues
that come from speaking out publicly on GLBT issues. Fight
OUT
Loud
is a resource for our community, acting as a guide for framing
issues and talking points, helping to get a coherent and effective
message out, and providing contacts for the everyday person when
their situation is not being taken seriously. We also hope to assist in
training our community on how to react to incidents of discrimination
and to raise awareness of the still present hatred and bigotry focused
on GLBT individuals.

GAY RIGHTS

OVERVIEW:
For much of American history,
indeed, for much of world history, homosexuality has
been a taboo subject. Often, it has been considered a
crime in itself. Yet today, millions of gay and lesbian
Americans are not only open about their sexuality, they
are campaigning for new laws which they say would grant
them the same rights accorded to heterosexuals,
including the right to marry and protection against
discrimination.
What's more, there's been a notable shift in the
public's attitudes toward homosexuality over the last
two decades. |

MISSION STATEMENT
Queers
for Economic Justice
is a progressive non-profit
organization committed to
promoting economic justice
in a context of sexual and
gender liberation.
Our goal is to challenge and
change the systems that
create poverty and economic
injustice in our
communities, and to promote
an economic system that
embraces sexual and gender
diversity.
We are committed to the
principle that access to
social and economic
resources is a fundamental
right, and we work to create
social and economic equity
through grassroots
organizing, public
education, advocacy and
research.
We do this work because
although poor queers have
always been a part of both
the gay rights and economic
justice movements, they have
been, and continue to be,
largely invisible in both
movements.
This work will always be
informed by the lived
experiences and expressed
needs of queer people in
poverty.

LESBIAN & GAY PROJECT
Delaware's
Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) community now has an
identified organization willing to take a stand on the
issue of civil rights for lesbians and gays. The
project is patterned after the National ACLU Lesbian and
Gay project. The local group falls under the governance
of the Board. The unanimous agreement by board members
was preceded by comments that LGB people were currently,
largely unprotected from civil rights abuses; and
furthermore, a forum was needed to educate and advocate
for civil rights when national and local conservative
political groups were attacking the rights of many
groups and using Lesbian and Gay issues to polarize the
community.
ACLU-DE recognizes LGB
people as a target of discrimination, needing to be
given the support of both the national and Delaware
organization. All are welcome and encouraged to
participate. Please call the office for the date and
location of the project meetings.

| Welcome to Just Equal! |
| |
|
Just Equal members believe that gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender people should have the same rights and protections
enjoyed by others. We believe a person shouldn't be fired,
denied the right to rent an apartment, or be kicked out of a
restaurant or hotel simply because he or she is gay, lesbian,
bisexual, or transgender. We also believe that children should
not be denied access to health insurance or other family
benefits because their parents are gay.
Sexual orientation and gender identity are still used to deny
these basic rights to many of our neighbors, family members,
friends, and employees.
Just Equal members believe the best community is one where
all of its citizens have basic rights and dignities. Our
outreach efforts have shown us that most Athens residents
agree with and support our mission. |

Garden State Equality is one of
America's fastest growing civil-rights organizations. Representing New
Jersey's 875,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex
citizens and the community's legions of straight allies, Garden State
Equality is revolutionizing activism in New Jersey and providing a
unique model for LGBTI activism nationwide.
By constant
design, Garden State Equality is a full partnership between the LGBTI
community and the straight community. We believe that as civil rights
movements mature, it is incumbent upon them to expand dramatically from
their core base, aggressively incorporating the equal involvement of
progressive allies. That's why a significant number of Garden State
Equality's Board, general membership, donors and grassroots volunteers
are from New Jersey's straight community.

ARE

| Public Policy Agenda
The Empire State Pride Agenda is
New York's statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
(LGBT) civil rights and advocacy organization.
Our mission is to win equality
and justice for LGBT New Yorkers and our families. We recognize
that while significant cultural, legal and governmental advances
have led to greater equality for LGBT New Yorkers, we and our
families remain highly vulnerable without the vast majority of
rights and protections that most New Yorkers take for granted.
Through our education,
organizing and advocacy programs, we work toward creating a
broadly diverse alliance of LGBT people and our allies in
government, communities of faith, labor, all sectors of the
workforce and other social justice movements to achieve equality
for LGBT New Yorkers and the broader goals of social, racial and
economic justice. |

North Dakota |
|

|
Equality
North Dakota (END) is a statewide gay, lesbian, bisexual
and transgender rights organization. It was founded in
1999 as an outgrowth of the nationwide Equality Begins
at Home project of the National Gay and Lesbian Task
Force. END continues to work with both the Task Force
and the Human Rights Campaign to bring full equality to
GLBT North Dakotans.
Why does
North Dakota need a statewide organization advocating on
behalf of the GLBT community? Currently, there are no
federal, state or local laws which specifically protect
the rights of GLBT North Dakotans. In a ranking of
states' legal protections offered their GLBT citizens,
North Dakota places at the very bottom. Although a
number of private and public employers include sexual
orientation in their anti-discrimination policies, it is
still perfectly legal in North Dakota to be fired merely
for being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.
Clearly, GLBT North Dakotans do not enjoy the same
protection under the law as other residents of our
state or even the same protections offered in other
states.
On the state
level, Equality North Dakota is a member of the
North Dakota Human Rights
Coalition and the North Dakota Progressive
Coalition. Nationally, END is a member of the
Federation of
Statewide LGBT Advocacy Organizations and has also
endorsed the work of the Coalition to Promote Equality
at ExxonMobil.
The
decision-making power of Equality North Dakota is vested
in a steering committee, and there are presently three
officers within the committee. However, END general
meetings are open to all GLBT and allied North Dakotans
who support the work of the organization. We are
currently looking for more representation from the
western part of the state as part of our ongoing efforts
and our commitment to organize throughout North Dakota. |
