Learn About the Campaign

CBS Corporation and Viacom, two of the largest media companies in the world, and the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, a leader in health information and research, have created an unprecedented media campaign to eradicate ignorance about HIV/AIDS. The multi-year initiative encompasses the creation and dissemination of information about the HIV virus and its prevention through television, radio, outdoor, online and print media.

AeGiS

The "magic bullet" to cure or prevent HIV infection has not been found, and too many people with or affected by HIV/AIDS are isolated by cultural, geographic, and economic barriers. In these times, how must we fight AIDS and relieve the human suffering it causes? We believe the answer will be found in the transformation of information into knowledge. For that to happen, information must be easily accessible and widely disseminated. It must be used.

AEGiS began in the mid-1980s and has continued to be the definitive web-based reference for HIV/AIDS-related information. The collaborative effort of many organizations and individuals has enabled the creation of this vast database of facts regarding the history, prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS...to date over 1 million files.

Through our keyword-searchable knowledgebase, AEGiS offers cutting edge information via HIV/AIDS specific publications and news sources from around the world. In addition, an array of reference materials are offered. As new aspects of HIV/AIDS arise, AEGiS will continue to extend its efforts towards the dissemination of potentially life saving information.

AIDSinfo is a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) project providing information on HIV/AIDS clinical trials and treatment. It is the result of merging two previous DHHS projects: The AIDS Clinical Trials Information Service (ACTIS) and the HIV/AIDS Treatment Information Service (ATIS).

AIDSinfo is a central resource for current information on federally and privately funded clinical trials for AIDS patients and others infected with HIV. AIDS clinical trials evaluate experimental drugs and other therapies for adults and children at all stages of HIV infection -- from patients who are HIV positive with no symptoms to those with various symptoms of AIDS.

As the main dissemination point for federally approved HIV treatment and prevention guidelines, AIDSinfo provides information about the current treatment regimens for HIV infection and AIDS-related illnesses, including the prevention of HIV transmission from occupational exposure and mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy.

AIDS Info BBS Database

Welcome to the oldest public AIDS information database in the world -- online since 1985!

Here is a treasure house of information about AIDS. It has been building since 1985, always selecting the best but never accumulating the most. Unless you are extremely unusual, you will find that much of your selection work has already been done for you before you begin reading here.

On controversial points, this collection presents both sides of the major issues, clearly labeled so you can avoid them if desired.

Do not look here for conspiratorial theories. Several of them (one ran to 200 pages) were kept, waiting for acknowledgement of authorship and then pitched after a year or so, when no one admitted having written them.

One special section is filled with articles from a major newspaper (donated for non-commercial use), the Wall Street Journal, 1984 to present, which gives a perspective to some of the articles written by those closest to AIDS itself.

There is a library of over 19,300 comments by callers, many of them PWA, about therapies, AIDS politics, and other subjects.

There is an archive of statistics dating from long, long ago. There are of course publications, some dating back to their beginnings, like AIDS Treatment News (the first of them all).

You will not find a great many government publications, because callers have indicated a low opinion of their value. However there are now exhaustive government databases available elsewhere that should fill all such needs. But you will find the latest definition of AIDS, and Surgeon General Koop's historic, startling message to the entire U.S. nation.

A few of the now-enormous list of books on AIDS, some AIDS plays, videos and other media events have been reviewed, and some described without comment.

Mission Statement

The mission of AIDS.ORG is to help prevent HIV infections and to improve the lives of those affected by HIV and AIDS by providing education and facilitating the free and open exchange of knowledge at an easy-to-find centralized website.

HIV/AIDS Information

About HIV/AIDS Information from NLM

A comprehensive AIDS information service is vital to enable people to combat the AIDS epidemic. Scientists, physicians, educators, and other health professionals need rapid access to the latest information on AIDS research, diagnosis, treatment, control, and prevention. Consumers require similar access to appropriate information for decision-making about their behavioral choices and treatment. Community-based organizations, clinics and other types of service providers also need access to high quality, accurate and timely information for their staff and clients. The National Library of Medicine (NLM), the world's largest medical library, has been developing AIDS information services since the AIDS crisis began in 1980.

Our Mission

… turning hope into action

Project Inform has been at the frontlines in the fight against HIV/AIDS since 1985—when reliable information about the disease and its treatment was nearly impossible to obtain. Project Inform is a national, nonprofit, community-based organization working to end the AIDS epidemic. Our mission is to:

Inform people living with HIV, their caregivers, and their healthcare and service providers about the treatment and monitoring of HIV disease;

Advocate to facilitate research towards a cure and appropriate policies, legislation and funding for HIV research, treatment and care; and

Inspire people to make informed choices, take effective action in the fight against HIV and choose hope over despair.

Wes & Tom's Cool Site - Featured in USA Today & The Advocate: We're a gay male couple with AIDS. A fundamentalist aunt told Wes that Tom was not invited to Wes' family reunion. Wes took it to the family and challenged her right to exclude Tom. The whole family chimed in with their opinions. The entire thing was written, since Wes lived in Houston and the aunt was in Oregon. Here we share it with you. Be proud of who you are, and live your life with dignity and honor. We also have a memorial to friends who've died of AIDS. Plus we regularly post charts of our immune system blood work! "Things From Wes' Nose" chronicles his four sinus surgeries in five years, and gives some tips for fellow sinus sufferers.

Policies/Programs

AIDS Action is a national organization dedicated to the development, analysis, cultivation, and encouragement of sound policies and programs in response to the HIV epidemic. We do this through the dissemination of information and the building and use of advocacy on behalf of all those living with and affected by HIV. Our goal is simple. Until It’s Over—until no one acquires HIV, until those living with HIV have the care and services they need, and until a cure is found.

AIDS Action has been instrumental in the development and implementation of major public health policies to improve the quality of life for the estimated 850,000 - 900,000 Americans who are HIV positive. AIDS Action Council collaborates with the greater public health community to enhance HIV prevention programs and care and treatment services; and to secure comprehensive resources to address community needs until the epidemic is over.

They have an outstanding list of AIDS/HIV organizations!

The Campaign to End AIDS (C2EA) is a diverse, exciting new coalition of people living with HIV/AIDS, their advocates and their loved ones. Together, we're demanding that our leaders exert the political will to stop the epidemic, in the U.S. and abroad, once and for all. In small towns and big cities across America, we're mobilizing to ensure the best treatment and care for all HIV-positive people...and HIV prevention methods backed by good science.

HIV/AIDS

As a part of its overall public health mission, CDC provides leadership in helping control the HIV/AIDS epidemic by working with community, state, national, and international partners in surveillance, research, and prevention and evaluation activities. These activities are critically important, because CDC estimates that over one million Americans are living with HIV, and 24 to 27% of these people are unaware of their HIV infection.

In addition, the number of people living with AIDS is increasing, as effective new drug therapies keep HIV-infected persons healthy longer and dramatically reduce the death rate. CDC’s programs work to improve treatment, care, and support for persons living with HIV/AIDS and to build capacity and infrastructure to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States and around the world.

Advocating for a Strong National Response to HIV/AIDS
The Communities Advocating Emergency AIDS Relief (CAEAR) Coalition represents 420 grantees under Title I and Title III of the Ryan White CARE Act, including the 56 major metropolitan areas most adversely affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, as well as providers and consumers of CARE Act-funded services. The CAEAR Coalition also advocates for adequate funding for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) in Title II of the CARE Act. As a leading voice in Washington, DC, for HIV/AIDS care and treatment and for over a decade, the CAEAR Coalition has led the successful annual federal appropriation advocacy effort for CARE Act Title I and Title III.

Critical Path AIDS Project has developed a community-based model for building an information infrastructure that can be reproduced in other cities and countries, and used for a wide range of purposes particularly appropriate to rapid dissemination of AIDS information. We have demonstrated from April 1995 to the present that World Wide Web technology on the Internet provides a cost-effective means of reaching otherwise hard-to-reach populations and front-line AIDS service providers and AIDS researchers worldwide. And provides them with an efficient means of disseminating information community-wide, nation-wide or world-wide that is updateable on a daily basis.

HIV STOPS WITH ME is a social marketing campaign which aims to reduce the stigma associated with HIV and to acknowledge the powerful role that people who are positive have in ending the epidemic. The campaign celebrates the contributions that are made every day by those most affected by the disease and has spokesmodels from Boston, Buffalo, Los Angeles, Long Beach, New York City, Oregon, San Francisco, and Seattle.

The HIV STOPS WITH ME campaign features HIV positive real people talking about real issues. The campaign deals directly with sex and condom use, while it also raises important themes like responsibility, communication, and disclosure of status. Each spokesmodel has a personalized message to deliver to other people who are positive. The messages are hopeful and supportive, and they also make people think about what they are doing to stop this disease.

About The Quilt

Founded in 1987, The AIDS Memorial Quilt is a poignant memorial, a powerful tool for use in preventing new HIV infections, and the largest ongoing community arts project in the world.

Each "block" (or section) of The AIDS Memorial Quilt measures approximately twelve feet square, and a typical block consists of eight individual three foot by six foot panels sewn together. Virtually every one of the more than 40,000 colorful panels that make up the Quilt memorializes the life of a person lost to AIDS.

As the epidemic continues claiming lives around the world and here in the United States, the Quilt continues to grow and to reach more communities with its messages of remembrance, awareness and hope.

Who We Are

The National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) represents the nation’s chief state health agency staff who have programmatic responsibility for administering HIV/AIDS healthcare, prevention, education, and supportive service programs funded by state and federal governments. NASTAD is dedicated to reducing the incidence of HIV/AIDS infection in the U.S. and its territories, providing comprehensive, compassionate, and high-quality care to all persons living with HIV/AIDS, and ensuring responsible public policies. NASTAD provides national leadership to achieve these goals, and to educate about and advocate for the necessary federal funding to achieve them, as well as to promote communication between state and local health departments and HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs.  NASTAD supports and encourages the use of applied scientific knowledge and input from affected communities to guide the development of effective policies and programs.

Who We Are

Founded in 1983, the National Association of People with AIDS is a non-profit membership organization that advocates on behalf of all people living with HIV and AIDS in order to end the pandemic and the human suffering caused by HIV/AIDS. We are the oldest national AIDS organization in the United States and the oldest national network of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world. You can view a brief history of NAPWA and the People with AIDS (PWA) movement and the landmark Denver Principles, a copy of NAPWA's 2003 updating of the Denver document entitled The Rights and Responsibilities of People with HIV/AIDS, our 2003-2005 Strategic Plan which describes our focus for the next few years and an introduction to our programs, ours advocacy work and information about our board and staff. We always welcome your comments.

The Urban Coalition for HIV/AIDS Prevention Services is a coalition of community members and health departments from the seven local jurisdictions that are directly funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conduct HIV prevention programs (Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles County, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington, DC). Collectively these metropolitan areas represent more than 1/3 of the nation’s cumulative AIDS cases and are the epicenters of the nation’s urban HIV epidemic.

Governed by a seven member steering committee and delegations of community and governmental representatives from each jurisdiction, UCHAPS works to enhance efforts to stem the urban HIV epidemic through concerted advocacy activities, and through collaborative technical assistance and technology transfer activities among the member jurisdictions. To further its goals, UCHAPS has joined as a consortium member of AIDS Action Council, and has a collaborative and supportive partnership with the United States Conference of Mayors.

Research Efforts

AIDS Research Alliance of America (ARA) is a national leader in fast-track independent AIDS research seeking to develop a cure for AIDS and develop strategies to prevent new HIV infections. ARA supports its own independent research by leveraging privately raised funds as well as income from clinical trials conducted for pharmaceutical companies.

We tackle HIV on multiple fronts by improving the health of people living with HIV/AIDS, striving to develop vaccines and microbicides that prevent the further spread of HIV, creating Reservoir Ablative Strategies (RAS) that could eliminate HIV from infected individuals, and searching for a cure.

AIDS Research Alliance is pioneering a revolutionary business model for conducting medical research in the United States, influencing the direction of HIV research along the way.

Northern California Center for AIDS Research

Two geographically and scientifically linked institutions in Northern California have established the Northern California Center for AIDS Research (NCCFAR) which benefits all of the investigators and clinicians at the respective institutions, as well as the patients living inside and outside that region.

The NCCFAR has put into place the appropriate infrastructure and leadership needed to successfully compete for funding as a full CFAR. The NCCFAR capitalizes on the complementary strengths of the institutions, UC Davis and the Viral and Rickettsial Disease Laboratory of the California Department of Health Services (VRDL/CDHS), and fills the gaps needed to develop a full CFAR.

The overall aims of the NCCFAR are to concentrate efforts during the first years of funding in three specific emphasis areas:

The first is to study prevention strategies along with investigations aimed at developing an effective HIV-1 vaccine. The second is to gain a better understanding of disease pathogenesis using investigations that span the basic, preclinical and clinical arenas. The third is to translate knowledge gained from the basic science and preclinical components of the program into developing potential new treatment or prevention modalities.

In order to view the calendar you must be a registered Yahoo member.

If you are the "activities coordinator" or "CEO" of any bay area HIV organizations we'd like to have you join, otherwise viewing our site is a better option.

Our members are a conglomeration of HIV organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area who list their activities on this calendar.

The calendar is designed to help publicize members events and to help avoid similar and overlapping HIV forums, fundraisers and other HIV related activities.

We are not a static site, our members are always adding new calendar listings every day.

Everyone is able to view the calendar and links section. Many bay area HIV organizations have their website links listed with descriptions and contact information.

San Francisco

Established in 1985, the STOP AIDS project works to prevent HIV transmission among all gay and bisexual men in San Francisco through multicultural, community-based organizing.
Internationally recognized as a successful model of grassroots prevention and support, STOP AIDS brings diverse gay and bisexual men together to talk about the challenges and issues posed by HIV/AIDS through neighborhood outreach, workshops and community forums.

Our work extends beyond education -- we help change behavior, create personal commitment to safer sex, build community support for each individual, and live these compelling beliefs: HIV transmission can be prevented.

Thriving in SF

  • WE ARE HIV+ and endeavor to be open about it and realistic regarding its meaning in our daily lives - our triumphs as well as our struggles.

  • WE ARE responsible beings that respect ourselves and others and do nothing to harm one another.

  • We strive to be self-empowered and self-actualizing, while remaining non-aligned and unsponsored by traditional HIV/AIDS service groups.

  • We provide ourselves (and others living with HIV) an opportunity to participate in meaningful activities to "break patterns", to reduce marginalization, and to enrich the mind, the body, and the spirit. (See Our Projects)

  • We encourage a safe and supportive environment to provide a more broad-based discussion about HIV-related issues.

  • We share and provide trust and encouragement, friendship and brotherhood - in a diffuse organizational structure - and "outside the box".

... is about HIV/AIDS and raising money to help the beneficiaries continue to provide the critical services and education needed to meet the growing needs of our community.

... increases awareness and knowledge about HIV/AIDS among participants, their donors and the general public.

... addresses the widespread misperception that HIV and AIDS are no longer a problem -- in fact more people are living with HIV & AIDS today than ever before, which means a much greater need for services.
