NALGBTCC
National
Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community
Centers
Maintains an
on-line directory of community centers!
| Welcome to the website of the National
Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender
Community Centers (NALGBTCC).
The National Association of LGBT Community Centers exists
to support and enhance lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender (LGBT) community centers, which are engines of
community organizing and liberation, and crucial to the
health and strength of LGBT communities.
Today, there are over 150 community centers throughout
the country, with new centers forming on a regular basis.
Collectively, their combined membership, client base,
visitors, newsletter readership, and event attendees
represents one of the largest constituencies in the LGBT
movement. Centers are the primary point of contact for
people coming out, seeking LGBT health services, community
information and referrals. In many cities and towns,
community centers are the only local LGBT community
resource. Whether organizing for social change, providing
direct services, or educating the public, community centers
work more closely with their LGBT constituency and engage
more community leaders and decision makers than any other
LGBT network in the country.
The Association offers technical assistance, leadership
training, and networking opportunities to centers in all
stages of formation, and is a national voice for the LGBT
community centers movement. Programs and services include:
- National and regional conferences offering skills
building training and peer-to-peer networking to help
LGBT centers build their organizational, programmatic
and advocacy capacity.
-
Association Staff available to provide one-on-one
support and information to centers.
-
E-Newsletters and a website featuring a
Technical Assistance section and a
Directory of LGBT community centers across the
United States.
- Links to
Nonprofit Management Resources on a broad range of
capacity building topics.
- Easy-to-implement national programs like
Promote the Vote, the Association's LGBT
get-out-the-vote program designed to increase LGBT civic
participation.
- Research data and program development assistance on
LGBT health issues, like our partnership with the US
Centers for Disease Control – the
LGBT
Tobacco Prevention and Control Project - to help
centers improve the lives of LGBT people across the
country.

About
BAI
(Mobile, AL)
Bay Area Inclusion Community Center
(BAI) is a not-for-profit organization whose
mission is:
"To provide services which promote the
well-being of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered
(LGBT) community, to work to eliminate the conditions in
society which allow sexual prejudice and bias against gender
expression to exist, and to be a safe haven where everyone
is welcome."
BAI was founded in May of 2002 by a group
of LGBT people and their allies to address the unmet needs
of the LGBT community in Mobile. The needs that were
identified at that time were:
- A "centralized hub" to unite the
groups, organizations and services that already exist in
Mobile’s LGBT Community.
- An Information and Referral Hotline
to put community members and visitors in touch with
existing groups, organizations, and services that exist
in Mobile’s LGBT Community.
- Collaboration with services that
exist in the larger community in Mobile that do not meet
the needs of LGBT people who live and work in this
community.
- Advocacy for LGBT civil rights.
- A safe place for LGBT people and
organizations to meet and socialize.

Vision & Mission
Following the advice of noted Chicago
architect Daniel Burnham,
Center on Halsted organizers early on decided they
would “make no small plans.” The Center’s vision reflects this
philosophy:
A
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender journey… celebrating,
affirming and discovering possibilities.
To achieve this vision and create a
place where people can come together to play, learn, and talk to one
another, the Center’s mission is as follows:
In a safe and
nurturing environment, the Center on Halsted serves as a catalyst
for the LGBT community that links and provides community resources,
and enriches life experiences.
These guiding messages inspire every
step of the way as Center on Halsted becomes a reality. The Center
will be an anchor for all facets of the LGBT community to congregate
freely in a safe, understanding and nurturing environment – with
support networks and programs that meet the cultural, emotional,
social, educational and recreational needs of LGBT persons, whether
youth, adults, seniors or families.
Above all, the Center will act as a
bridge between persons and between communities, enabling new
possibilities.

The mission of
The
Lesbian Gay Bi Transgender Community Center of Metropolitan St.
Louis is to provide service to the lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender, questioning and ally community of St. Louis
and its surrounding areas through education, outreach, healthy
living and community building.
Our plan is to have a facility with a
library, computer area, community calendar, website, meeting rooms,
and a lounge in an effort to create a safe and supportive as well as
positive environment for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender,
and questioning (LGBTQ) community in the metropolitan St. Louis
area. The Center will be staffed full-time to allow the community
to have a chance to enjoy and receive the resources and assistance
they need. Volunteer staff members will be available to assist the
full-time individuals. This overall plan is just Tier 1 of our
3-Tier plan of development.
