International Front Runners is an affiliation of GLBT running/walking clubs that have organized in many of larger cities around the world. Inspired by Patricia Nell Warren's novel The Front Runner, the first FrontRunner club began in San Francisco in 1974, and other FR clubs quickly began forming in the United States then in Canada and abroad. International Front Runners took a major step in becoming a more formal body by drafting and adopting a Mission Statement and Constitution at our International Front Runner Forum in September 1999. There are currently about a hundred Frontrunner clubs around the world and they are as diverse as where they are situated. Some of the clubs have hundreds of members, some startups only a few. Many include walkers, not just runners, and at least one club has many more walkers than runners. Some of the clubs elect officers, have bylaws and a membership dues structure, many don't. Most have regular weekly runs/walks and many also get together at local restaurants after their runs. And the fact that there are three different spellings of the name -- FrontRunners, Front Runners and Frontrunners -- is just a further example of the clubs' diversity.

“We want to give athletes an opportunity to share their experiences. Our goals are twofold: One, create a community of gay athletes who can communicate with each other regularly. Two, help cultivate an environment in sports in which athletes are accepted and respected without regard to their sexual orientation. In the process, we help to create positive role models for the society at large.” – O. Mac Chinsomboon, Executive Director

Sports Complex is a biweekly column about GLBT athletes and sporting events. Not only for jocks and sports fans, the column also looks at the "complex" relationship many gay people have with athletics. Written by Jim Provenzano, an accomplished writer and medalist in wrestling, Sports Complex focuses on the growing global community of participants in Gay Games and other events that break down stereotypes, and explores the taboos surrounding gay athletes in professional sports. Whether examining adults enjoying amateur sports, or accomplished college and pro champions facing discrimination, Sports Complex provides a queer take on jocks - in and out of the closet and the locker room.

The Gay and Lesbian Sports Alliance of Southern California was formed in August 1991 to promote recreational and competitive sports participation by local athletes on the national and international levels. The Alliance does not organize any sports, but instead acts as a source of information for who's playing what, when and where. The Sports Alliance is busiest during the months leading up to the Gay Games, held every four years. For Gay Games/New York in 1994, for example, the group coordinated housing for more than 200 athletes of Team Los Angeles. In 1998 & 2002, the Sports Alliance also organized uniforms for the L.A. contingents to Amsterdam & Sydney, respectively. The next Games are in Chicago in July 2006. We will also have athletes competing in OutGames I in Montréal, also in July 2006. The Alliance operates this website for people to get information on about 30 sports, as well as a Yahoo!Group for teams & athletes to share information on practices, tryouts & social events. Some (swimming, bowling, running and tennis, for example) are very well-established while others (gymnastics, roller hockey) are in the formative stages. If you have an interest in organizing a sport not on the list, please email info@LaSportsAlliance.org, or click here for the Sports Alliance Board's contact information.

We are an unofficial gay and lesbian motorcycle riding group in northern Utah. The group was formed in 2001 by Jamie Turnbow and Chuck Tabaracci. We usually get together once every two weeks for a weekend ride. We go places that are within a few hours away, usually making the ride no longer than four or five hours for the day. We do have exceptions to that though. We try to do a longer weekend trip at least once a year, usually over Labor Day weekend.
