PASAN is a community-based network of prisoners, ex-prisoners, organizations, activists and individuals working together to provide advocacy, education, and support to prisoners on HIV/AIDS, HCV and related issues.

PASAN formed in 1991 as a grassroots response to the AIDS crisis in the Canadian prison system.

Today, we are the only organization in Canada exclusively providing HIV/AIDS education, support and advocacy to prisoners, ex-prisoners, young offenders and their families.

The Transgender, Gender Variant and Intersex (TGI) Justice Project's mission is to challenge and end the human rights abuses committed against transgender, gender variant/genderqueer and intersex (TGI) people in California prisons and beyond.

While no one has it easy in prison, transgender and gender variant prisoners often experience double jeopardy when it comes to surviving in prison. Prison Administrators deny they exist, the medical staff is usually uncaring and sometimes sadistic, the custody staff routinely harass them, and they are sometimes the victim of sexual assault by both staff and other prisoners.
