We are the Gay and Lesbian Arabic Society (GLAS), an
international organization established in 1988 in the USA with
worldwide chapters. We serve as a networking organization for Gays
and Lesbians of Arab descent or those living in Arab countries. We
aim to promote positive images of Gays and Lesbians in Arab
communities worldwide, in addition to combating negative portrayals
of Arabs within the Gay and Lesbian community. We also provide a
support network for our members while fighting for our human rights
wherever they are oppressed. We are part of the global Gay and
Lesbian movement seeking an end to injustice and discrimination
based on sexual orientation. |

DesiQ 2006
From Visions to Action
Trikone
is proud to host
DesiQ2006, a conference on South Asian lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender issues.
Trikone has been instrumental in organizing a
couple of historic conferences for the South Asian LGBT community.
The first one, Pride Utsav was in 1995 and the second, DesiQ2000 was
in 2000. Its time for the third conference, which will also
commemorate Trikone's completion of 20 years.
DesiQ2006
is scheduled for
June 21 - 24, 2006
in San Francisco, California.
The
theme for DesiQ2000 was Unfolding Visions and it focused on issues
faced by the community and its vision for the new millennium. Since
then a lot has happened. Our queer community has faced some new
challenges, dealt with old issues with extra complexities and won
some difficult battles. We have also proudly noticed the emergence
of a number of South Asian queer groups and organizations worldwide.
The queer movements in South Asia have gained astonishing momentum.
Yes, it is happening!

Se nos han abierto nuevos panoramas de comprensión.
Estamos dedicados a ayudar a cambiar actitudes y crear

Welcome to NE2SS' website
devoted to providing information
about and for lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgendered and
two-spirit American Indians of
New York City and the tri-state
area (New York, New Jersey, and
Connecticut.) We invite all
two-spirit people and their
allies to attend our
social/business meetings held
every month at the LGBT Center
(208 West 13th Street, NY, NY)
on the 3rd Wednesday of the
month.
What is a two-spirit? In crude
terms, it is a LGBT Indian. For
a more refined definition,
here’s an historical
perspective:
In many American Indian
traditions, there were
individuals, who entered into
same-sex relationships, who were
considered holy and treated with
the highest respect and
acceptance. They were the
historians, the healers, and
people of empowerment. They
possessed a delicate balance of
male and female "spirits", were
often honored for being unique
and having a different spiritual
calling. One of the important
functions they provided was as
mediators between the spirit
world and physical world.
The mission of NorthEast
Two-Spirit Society is:
• To educate the LGBT and
non-LGBT communities regarding
indigenous and Two-Spirit
histories and traditions;
• To ensure community cohesion
amongst the NorthEast Two-Spirit
people through the promotion of
health and spiritual well-being
by sharing our traditions with
one another;
• To outreach, build alliances
and coalitions with other
community based organizations to
increase the visibility of the
Two-Spirit community to ensure
the Two-Spirit community's needs
and concerns are being
addressed.
