Creating Change Conference 2008
February 6–10, 2008

Creating Change Builds Power! The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force proudly sponsors and presents the 20th Creating Change Conference to build LGBT grassroots political power. Creating Change gives you the tools and practical skills you need to take home and to take action. Prepare to be challenged to do your best work on behalf of LGBT people. Over five full days, you will participate in top-level trainings, rigorous workshops, caucus and networking sessions, and action-planning with our movement’s best thinkers and brightest innovators. This is community like you’ve never experienced with a purpose greater than all of us: to transform our society so that the diversity of human expression and identity is valued and honored. Let’s build our power to create change! See you in Detroit.

Lavender Languages & Linguistics Conference

Since the first Lav Lgs conference in 1993, common themes in conference discussion have been two-fold: how lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgendered persons and queers use language in everyday life, and how language gets used against us by others. Critics of the conference dismiss these themes as "identity based linguistics." This charge greatly dismisses the value of the work we have done and continue to do here. Certainly, there is an identity-based theme in the conference inquiry, as there should be. Text-making, naming and other linguistic practices are not socially neutral. Anyone who examines language, gender and sexuality “at the site” is studying how speakers use language to construct and contest claims to subject position within that context, and how language use itself is shaped and informed by that process. Papers addressing these themes have always been welcome at Lav Lgs conferences, and always will be.

The Celebrate The Night (CTN) event is in honor of National Coming Out Day,
and is an annual event committed to "Celebrating" women through the forum of a
variety show and DJ dance. The CTN event also helps to promote the visibility of
our community's performers, comprised of both amateur and professional artisans.

CTN affords the Lesbian-Gay-Bi-Transgender (LGBT) community and LGBT friendly
businesses /organizations the opportunity to promote themselves, and to share their
information with the community through performance, education, sales and networking.

Transcending Boundaries Conference is for bisexual/pansexual, trans/genderqueer, and intersex people and our allies. TBC is for and about those who do not fit into the simple categories of gay/straight, male/female, and we couldn't be more excited! We are pleased to announce that this year's conference will be held in conjunction with the PFLAG Northeast Regional Conference for family, friends, and allies from across the region.
